Certainly seems like a no-win situation here. The economy sucks, so does the budget, so teachers get laid off, which results in complaints. More students in the classrooms, which results in overcrowding and less 1/1 attention, which results in complaints.

NEW BRITAIN
The city school system is in crisis and the superintendent is warning that class sizes could increase to as many as 40 students next fall unless a way can be found to close a $3 million budget gap.
Faced with eliminating 135 teachers, the school board chairwoman has urged the school board and residents to "get outraged" and pressure their congressmen to lobby for federal stimulus money for schools.
School Board President Sharon Beloin-Saavedra has been encouraging residents and officials to contact their congressmen asking them to support two federal bills, one in in the House and other in the Senate, that call for a second round of federal stimulus spending to help schools save teaching jobs.
