The school I joined was a traditional TKD school. A couple of years ago my school's owner had a falling out with his master, and he broke off, and starting changing the curriculum.

And he keeps changing the curriculum, primarily to defocus the traditional, and focus more on sport.

A year ago, he brought in a couple of investors, and with it more changes to the curriculum.

I finally decided I've had enough. I still enjoy the people, students, instructors, and the owners. But what I'm not enjoying is the focus of the training, and the uncertainty about what my next test will look like.

I've left the school, and joined a gym to keep my fitness up. There are a bunch of other schools around, but not a TKD school.

Bummed,
Rick

Sad story Rick, however I think there is plenty of things to do, have you ever think about do crosstraining in other martial art? The broke up leaves you with the great oportunity to find a new dojo, make new good friends and learn something new and refreshing.

Start the search and let us know how it goes.

That sucks! Unfortunately this type of thing happens all the time. Are you in a position to start your own training group under you?

I agree. Check out the other schools and find a style that impresses you and start training.

If you are open to switching schools & systems, you will probably find the closest compatibility in Tang Soo Do and Shotokan karate. Of course it can be fun to try something totally different too.

Don't be afraid to start your own little training group as well even though I understand you just got your BB a year or so ago. Good luck!

Yeah, I'm not really in a position to lead a training group, since I just got by 1st degree a year ago. I plan to check out some different styles, I just haven't gotten around to it.

I know an instructor outside of Houston (NW of the city) if you're looking for a new school. They do take part in competitions but it's a fairly traditional school. Let me know if you're interested in his contact details. - Chris

If the Dojang changes direction! You really do not have a lot options in the end you have to leave!

Picking a Dojang/Dojo that is right for your future is very important!

Loyalty to a dojang only matters if theye giving you something you want. If they change, or if what you want changes, leave. Simple. You did the right thing.

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you there, Rick. I hope you find what you're looking for.

Sorry to hear about your travails, that really sucks. Perhaps you can write the master and express your wishes to continue in his tradition. Maybe he/she might be willing to help you set up a club or something.

Congratulations for keeping loyal to what you believe, that's what's really important.
You took a courageous decision, and I believe it was the right one. Remember you are not alone.
I hope you find a way to keep going in the martial art road. Keep us updated with the news, too. :)

Thanks for the support everyone.

Chris, at this point I'm wide open, so hit me up with your friends details.
