For general speed training of the arms/hands I think they would be okay. But you need something with real resistance. A 70lb water or sand bag is a long time go to.

Cant go wrong with a reflex bag. It's one of those things you can get creative with.

You will need to start off disappointingly light and don't do what I did and hit it when you're pissed off

Double end bags are also great for work upper body movement. Do a set of punches then let the bag bounce and work on moving the body to avoid its motion while maintaining good stance. It was a drill my Olympic coach used to help us be 'kick ready'.
