And yes, most forums I've seen have turned out to be nothing more than 2 opposites having shouting matches. This ranges from talking heads on political shows to internet forums to undergrad classrooms. It's not helped by the fact that, most of the time, the "debating" parties only consist of 2 polar opposites, rather than, say, 2 extremists, a few factual experts, and a few moderates. Then maybe common ground might be achieved.
