Ummm ... no, no it won't. I'm afraid that the Japanese sword arts have nothing at all to do with self defense, unless you happen to get attacked by a sword wielding maniac! :)

Congratulations on your start. You really should mention who your instructor is and what group you're practicing under on your web site. It makes a difference.

Cheers,

Ahh my apologies. We train under sensei Caslin in Owensboro and also train under sensei Jeff Watkins In Evansville. I will make these suggestions to Sensei Watkins for the website. ( he is the one who created it. )

Thanks Mary,
I know Jeff Watkins was in Nicklaus Suino's organization (through Andrew Bryant if I remember right), but I didn't know he had advanced enough to teach. I've not heard of Caslin sensei in Owensboro though.
Thanks for the info. It's good to know who's teaching where. :)

Cheers,

Well I don't know about that? He is a shodan though. Not sure what you have to be to teach.
it all kinda started that he and another guy just wanted to get together to practice at a dojo I was already a member of.. When I saw what they were doing I joined in and then it snowballed from there. We are a group withing a group of people we share mat space with this group of martial artists.

For anyone interested, our Dojo, Florida Satsunankai, is teaching Tenshinsho Jigen Ryu in Miami, Florida.

We are an official branch of Tenshinsho Jigen Ryu Hyouhou Sougou Budo Genshinkai, the sole legitimate organization for this art in Japan.

Tenshinso Jigen Ryu Hyouhou is a Koryu Bujutsu founded in feudal Japan in early 1500's. It is a comprehensive school of martial arts that teaches the Sword (kenjutsu, iaijutsu), Spear (soujutsu), Nagamakijutsu, & Yawara (jujutsu).
