When you throw me, if I just collapse all the way down to the ground like a pile of soft noodle, no matter how long that you may have trained with me, you will never be able to develop any throwing skill.
The best counter to the throwing art is you just throw yourself down to the ground.
That was the original start of the ne-waza in Judo. They went up against a school (Fusen-Ryu) that flopped to the ground to avoid Kano's students throwing techniques. Kano was originally against the ground work, but added it to his style, but still set up the 70/30 split that is in the Judo rules today.
