are enough for training if you plan on being a serious competitor,

Let start with under 14?

Then 14 - 17?

Then the adults?

I'm a firm believer that you must train year round to really be a serious competitor no matter what age.

Waiting to hear from you all.

Terry,

I agree. I believe that you must train at a minimum of an hour a day to be a martial artist. To do an art such as Tae Kwon Do justice you should train daily, period end of story. Do as much as possible. I don't care if it is calestenics, stretching, poomse, one steps, or whatever. I personally pick one subject (I.E. poomse, and I will practice all 8 of my forms for an hour.)

I've trained w/ a few serious TKD fighters & more than a few pro boxers & kickboxers. I can really only speak to how the 14 & over crowd trained.

The TKD folks I knew that trained were in the dojang 6 days a week. They would run every day in the morning then train for 4 hours at night (during the week). Saturdays were lighter running & then training 2 hours. This was back in the early 80's. One fighter was an adult & the other was a teen girl. School or work was in between for each.

The pro kickboxers & boxers I know tend to work only when they need to so they can train 8+ hours a day.

Terry, I wish I could give some advice about kids. I just don't know how much is enough & how much is too much. Sorry.

First caveat, of course, - school comes first, period.

Second, any child competitor (or adult for that matter) needs to be checked out FIRST by their physician.

Now, to the training. At least six days a week at three hours a day to be a serious contendor.. Sunday rest should be mandatory, in my opinion. Some days need to be closer to four or even five hours.
