If your training basics is connected to your hyung, you should be getting some reinforcement as you perform your kibon movements or as your practice your one & 3 step sparring or hoshinsul. I studied for a while with a master who retooled his curriculum to have such an alignment of purposes, and I always thought more people should be doing the same.
Example: Consider the opening moves to Pyong Ahn #2, the simultaneous upper and outer 'blocks' that flow into an 'uppercut' and lead hand punch. Do you practice these moves only when you perform the pattern? If so, further inquiry into why you may consider changing your training will lead to a world of richness for you.
