I think you use the actual code for the smiley...

Dan, I think you have to type <colon>lol<colon> so ... without any spaces you would type this:

: lol :

Run it all together and it's a laughing smiley. I dunno, I'll try it.

Or you could just print out the list and put it next to your computer. Or would that be even more geeky than just learning the code?
