George Washington`s Letter

I followed a link on some other topic this morning and wound up on CNN`s religious blog and saw an interesting story about a letter George Washington wrote to a synagogue in Rhode Island after he had been there for a visit. I`m a history buff among other things, so I thought it was interesting to hear how the letter has changed hands over the years, etc. I also enjoyed reading it and hearing the beautiful formal language of the period.

Benedict Arnold's aide-de-camp, David S. Franks, was Jewish, and George Washington's good friend. He wasn't involved in Arnold's treason, and though tainted by it, went on to several prominent positions with the Continental army, and the fledgling State Department.
