I had tried sand before. It's easy to put in, it's difficult to take out. When sand turns into rock through time (from moisture in the air), you have to break the base to take sand out. If you don't, it can be too heavy to move from place to place. You may have to abandon that base if you have to move to a new location. Of course you can still use the top and re-order a new base (I don't know it's possible or not).
