Pistol Disarm?

This story in today's Chicago Tribune carries a large picture that is not in the web edition. It shows Michael Stone in an arm bar with a thumb lock put on by a U.K. LEO who uses his other hand to apparently pry something from his hand. The caption says "Michael Stone [...] is disarmed Friday at a parliamentary building..." and the story states that:

After spray-painting "Sinn Fein-IRA mur ..." on one of the buildings granite pillars, Stone, armed with a gun and knife, tried to storm past security guards inside the building. When he was stopped, he still managed to fling a bag into the building's reception area.
Fearing a bomb, police quickly evacuated the building. Later, Northern Ireland Chief Constable Hugh Orde said the knapsack contained six explosive devices "fairly amateurish in design." Outside, as police wrestled him to the ground, Stone shouted "no surrender"--the motto of loyalist hard-liners.
It looks like it's a gun disarm, but I can't tell for sure. There's a video of it at this link with a clipped version of the same picture. The picture there omits the disarm, unfortunately--if the picture extended just a bit more to the left you could see it, and if it extended just a bit more to the right you could see the pistol in the other LEO's left hand rather than just her empty right hand.
