That X-block would not be particularly effective with those sticks, I think...and doesn't take advantage of their length.

Yea, that's kind of what I was thinking ...

Wouldn't you be better of stepping back and striking the incoming arm or leg with the sticks?
 
That's what i was taught! If your timing is very good, step off-line and hit him in the face instead.
 
OMG, that's from the Christopher Geary website! Homeslice should learn how to use those sticks in the correct manner.
