I had an interesting exchange with the head instructor of the system I train in. I mentioned that I attended a great seminar with an instructor of another style, and that many of the concepts dovetailed very nicely with what we were learning. There was general agreement. Then I mentioned that I ran into a former student of his at this seminar. At first he couldn't place the name, then he asked his assistant instructor, "How long was that guy with us?" "Oh, maybe two or three months." came the answer. "Well", my instructor replied, "That's not a student. You're not a student unless you're with us at least a year." "I guess I'm a student, then." I answered. "That's up to you." he shot back.

So that's our ranking system: visitor, student, instructor. What's your ranking system like?

I sometime say we have: Passers through, part time students, beginners, advanced, etc.
Also classify some as just technique stealers, and wanna be’s
