Started in the jungles of Luzon in the Philippines, SIKARAN is the only classical Philippine style of karate. Much of the original history is lost, however, SIKARAN did exist when the islands were discovered by the Spanish in 1521.

From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Sikaran originated in the small town of Baras province of Rizal. It is a simple but intense game performed and practiced by the farmers which according to the forefathers of Baras, this martial arts game has been practiced long before the spaniards came to the Philippines which is around 1500's.

I have to wonder if Sikaran really dates back to the 16th century. I don't doubt that there were FMAs that used kicking then, but could it really have been the same system that survives to this day?
