Hello,

I was researching swords, and came across the dahong palay. It's featured in Ron K's website selling Philippine swords, and also on the new Typhoon site.

Does anyone have any familiarity with the dahong palay? I've visited my family in Batangas many times, but don't recall seeing this sword--which may simply mean I missed it. The blades my family used were traditional bolo-types--heavy blade, and shortish.

How does the dahong palay compare to the ginunting in feel? Is the ginunting just used in the Visayan region? Would you recommend the ginunting style for more "work" style use--ie cutting wood? Would it be a sacrilege to use the dahong palay for such camp work? (i.e. I would NEVER use a kris or a barong to cut wood...)

And while we're on the subject, what length ginunting do the Recon Marines in the PI use? Is 21" too awkard to use in the bush?

Thank you for enlightening me! Ingat!
