Just exactly what the heck is going on in the North Eastern USA?

I know we get Earthquakes, we get tornados and we can evenget the occasional Hurricane…but all within a month…. sheesh

It's just your turn. Since the NE has exported crime, drugs, mafia, The Jersey Shore... turn about is fair play. It's nature leveling the playing field... hehehehehehe

Many many times over the course of Earth's history have things shifted drastically, from the weather to the plates. Considering that the sun's magnetic pull is threatening to reverse the Earth's poles (I do realize how debated this evidence is, but I doubt ANY scientist is smart enough to accurately predict the patterns of the Sun, even bigger than our own mysterious Earth), I'd say we're actually doing pretty well. We, as humans, tend to think that if it hasn't happened in the documented history of our species, then it is "unprecedented." But in reality, we have survived through worse than this before, in much more reasonable numbers than our current population. If people gave nature it's proper respectable berth of space (IE not living on islands or right on the coast where the powerful ocean is just meters away), these things wouldn't be so devastating and terrifying. But we're out of safe space, and we're not as smart as we pretend to be, if people keep living on the ocean after all this time of warning.

Now wait one cotton picking minute there... we didn't exported crime, drugs and mafia those came to use form other places.... ok...you got me on the whole Jersey Shore and that alone could justify Earthquakes,Tornados and Hurricanes all by itself...so I guess I see your point… never mind :D

Every once in a while I go to this site... http://www.iris.edu/seismon/ and see the red circles (today's earthquakes) popping up all over the world.
Our planet is angry with the way we've been treating her. To me all the natural disasters that've been cropping up lately are like the anti-bodies in our own bodies. It doesn't make for a cheerful outlook.
All the little purple dots are earthquakes (of varying magnitudes) in the past 5 years. They're fairly outlining (most of) the continental plates rather nicely.

Imagine the world without us...

Every year, various newspapers do a poll and ask their readers if this year the weather is more unusual than in years past. Every year, readers say the same thing; yes.

We always think something unusual is going on. There seldom is.

I as a human tend to be pretty aware of what has, can and could happen and there is a rather long documented history of Hurricanes, Earthquakes and Tornados in the North Eastern USA. Also due to population and land that can actually sustain that population people tend to live near food sources, good farmland, rivers and harbors. And moving away from the ocean is not exactly the solution since you do not need to be near an ocean for a natural disaster (see Earthquakes, Tornados, Volcanos, Thunderstorms, Hurricanes/Tropical Storms, etc.) I’m about 200 miles inland and Irene hit my house, how far do you suggest we all move inland.

When the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands off the coast of North Africa finally sheared off and drops into the sea the resulting Tsunami could go about 20 miles inland where they can’t ever see the ocean.

Now the suns effect…. Since our orbit is not constant nor is our axis it is hard to say what will happen. We have an elliptical orbit now and a tilted axis. The orbit during the dinosaurs has been pretty much accepted as circular and our axis was fairly straight up. Magnetic fields change and there are several theories out there as to why.

Is our magnetic field changing? Who knows.

Will it be catastrophic? Good question

The North east is chalk full of thrust faults which tend to not slip as often as a slide fault but when they go they tend to go big-time.
There is no place safe to run so…. Take it day by day and be prepared in the event there is a problem

But come on… and Earthquake….. a Hurricane… AND a Tornado…all within a month….hey wait…. Actually it within two weeks…..GIVE ME A FREAKIN BREAK!!!!!

Listen you person who live so far inland he has to FLY to see the ocean in 3 or 4 hours (says the guy who lives 200 miles away from the ocean :D) I have lived in the North East almost my entire my life (47 years) and having an Earthquake, Hurricane (OK it was actually a tropical storm when it reached my house) and a Tornado within two weeks has NEVER happened. We have had Earthquakes.... Tornados and Hurricanes but never and I mean NEVER within a 2 week period

That and I'm really not all that serious here...it is just kindof a silly little post to pass the time :D

Anywhere you have tectonic plate action you will have earthquakes and volcanos and I had a theory one theory, that I have, that...is to say, which is mine,... is mine. :D

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. ok that is not my theory that is Newton’s.. but based on that theory I have, that is to say, which is mine,... is mine.

The next thing that I am about to say is my theory. Ready?

One geological movement that releases stress and causes earthquakes may very likely cause stress someplace else which then also reaches a point where it too can and does release energy.

That or All brontosauruses are thin at one end; much, much thicker in the middle and then thin again at the far end. That is the theory that I have and which is mine and what it is, too :D

We have, as a species, survived some pretty unimaginable catastrophes and we are still here.

Aye, we got down to a global population of about 10000 individuals at one point.

I'm not at all suggesting everyone move inland. I'm saying we should have never been this far spread in the first place. :)

But historically and archeologically speaking (especailly in the North Eastern USA) for the most part in many parts of the world we started on the coasts and moved inland and we also island hopped… of course there were times when the coast was not as far inland… see ice ages :D

True as that is, there was enough space left inland for folks to pack up and move during times of distressing weather. People didn't always live in permanent locations. Where could everyone go now? We "own" land instead of just using it as a safe place to function. Again, I don't have a solution to this problem... there's too many of us to solve it. Maybe mother nature is solving it for us!

Oh I know the coasts used to be different... :) I live in Alberta, Canada. We have fields of dinosaur bones where tsunamis crushed all the life here, and though there is now a mountain range between us and the coast, there wasn't always, and there won't necessarily always be. :)

I'm tellin ya... y'all dropped Jersey Shore on the rest of the unsuspecting world... this is payback.

Oh BTW... Atlanta is way inland (6 hours to the nearest real beach by car) & Hurricane Opal hit us in 1995 as a strong tropical storm/Cat 1 hurricane. It was spinning tornadoes off the back side of some the skyscrapers just to have them ripped apart when they cleared the building. Hush with the whining... it's very unbecoming since you speak with a lisp anyway... bwahahahahahahahahahaa

Besides in 2012 when the Mayan Long Count Calendar runs out (Shhhhhh... don't mention the short count) and mysterious planet Niberu comes hurling back this way to rip us apart by gravometric forces, it won't matter anyway. Snooki will be done in at that point.

Was that Toba about 70,000 years ago?

I know that is postulated as one of the causes, aye. Where I recall the statistic from was a documentary (BBC Horizon programme) about tracing human genetics back through time.

OK OK you win...it is all clear to me now

Hurricanes are known to cause a tornado now and then...but was there an EARTHQUAKE 14 days later...HUH..was there..hmmmmmmm...I think not... you devil talker.

I read an article by a woman that was a specialist in Mayanculture and she said if the Mayan civilization was still around they would juststart another calendar like they did the last time their calendar ran out ofdates.... DAMN... Too bad there are no Mayans left to make a new one....ohwell...where all doomed... Hey.. maybe we can go back in time… find a few andbring em to the 21st century so they can save us… kind of like StarTrek IV and the Whales... but with the whole Niberu thing... I'm not sure the Mayans can help us much :D

Oh there are plenty of Mayans around, just no ANCIENT Mayans to make sure all us STUPID people know that you just start another. But that's another story...

Yeah the planet thing... we're flat buggered there. Oh well, I'm planning on bein on the Yucatan when the calendar runs out & the planet is supposed to smash us *SAME DAY BTW* drinking tequila from a bottle straight & eating street vendor food. Either I'll wake up hung over severely & with the trots like nobody's business... or I'll wake up dead because one (or both) of them was right.

Either way, I'll be on the Yucatan!!!

It's all a plot by the Illuminati...

And what's scary is I was listening to a guy on the radio (Coast to Coast) last night making that argument.

It happens. We get earthquakes every few years along the East Coast. Typically, they're very minor and only make the news locally. We get tornadoes every year -- and improved radar and other observational technology is spotting more of them. Hurricanes? Happen around this time every year. Lots of them dissipate significantly or completely before they get very far north along the East Coast -- but they're regular occurances. That all happened in close proximity? Unusual -- except weren't the tornadoes connected to the hurricane?

Well, I suppose all this could be Mother Nature trying to shake, scrub, and blow the Jersey Shore crew off the face of the Earth. I sure wouldn't blame her!

And one can only hope that 2012 will be the end of Snooki!
