Or rather, I got -6- copies.
Each of the Admins got at least 2 copies also.
It went to every email address on our contact page, as well as every address on the magazine site, -AND- SilverStars site. Hell, it even generated a helpdesk ticket.

I don't remember signing up there, and I sure as hell never signed up my corporate help desk for their spam.

Companies that do this sort of crap should be shut down, and their officers drug through the streets naked, IMHO.

Yes, I hate spam. The 200+ spams I get every day tend to make me a little cranky.

Anyone else want to share some companies to avoid?
:soapbox:

Forgot to add: These are the 3 mentioned.

martialsearch.com

Martialinfo.com

contactmailer.com

I got it and deleted it.

I like to sign them up for porn and the Russian Mail order Brides and also for the religious junk e-mail.

Between the three I am sure to upset them some how.

They are at it again....geeze.

:soapbox:

Luckily, my company has a very effective spam filter in place... I am "lucky" (or unlucky would be more like it) if i get 2-5 spam messages a WEEK that make it thru my filter and into my actuall box.

BUT... Seriously, The list of companies to avoid is HUGE.

Here's Technopunks Good 'ol common sense spam avoidance technique #1

When you email large groups of people, Set the email addy to somthing like [email protected] and then put everyone elses name in the BCC field... that way if they forward it and they forward it etc etc... it doesnt generate a huge list of viable emails that can be harvested by a spammer...

Here's Technopunks Good 'ol common sense spam avoidance technique #2

This one is a WEE bit of a hassle for people, because you cant make a link or use it for auto responders but...

If you are posting your address online on say a website or some such thing you can do a couple things to avoid having them harvested by 'bots...

1 is make any listing on your site to your email a .gif or .jpg, people can see it, but Bots cant read it as an email. Alternatively if you wannapost your email addy someplace do it like this... [email protected] and leave a note that if you would like to email me please click that link and remove nospam. from the email address Like i said, a bit of a hassle for people who might email you but... It can seriously cut down your hassles...

Sweet!

That reminds me of a friend of my dad's who was a mason. He always hated the fact that he got pamphlets put on his car window for various organizations, and that they usually were soliciting contributions. He was also a bit nutsy, too. One day he noticed that one of them had "postage paid" on the pamphlet, so he wrapped a brick in a brown paper bag, tied it up, and put the pamphlet on top, and proceeded to mail it right back to them. I don't know if the guys had to actually pay the postage, but the thought of it is pretty funny!

Drop your Spamassassin trigger level down to 3 maybe, it catches a lot more that way. I found 5 (the default) to be too high.

Just make sure you whitelist and shops or people that dole out HTML mail as it usually goes over.

Ian.
