Developing a Hook Kick and Spin Hook Kick

What are the best training techniques to develop a hook kick/spin hook kick? Are there exercises that can help develop muscles to improve your ability to perform a hook kick? I apologize if this question has been posted before.

stand against a wall and use it for support only while you verrrrrry slowly practice using perfect form on your hook kick. Do not lean fully against the wall, but rather use it to maintain your balance. Once your hook kick is down, there are a lot of things you can do to improve the spin hook.

But, first learn walk, then learn fly. Nature rule Daniel-son, not mine.
 
grab a hold of a door frame and peform the kick medium to slow in perfect form.
 
When you get to the spinning hook kick do the same thing without the wall - practice slowly. That's great for muscle and accuracy. And one hint for the spin hook kick: turn your body before the kick.
 
1. First you must have a good side kick.
2. Common error is to think power comes from the leg. It comes from the hip. Easy to show, tough to explain but I'll try.

Think of a hook kick as though it will be a side kick with the foot about 15 degrees past (To the toe of your foot side) of where the heel will impact the target. The leg and hip will all be lined up on this angle. Now the leg flexes at the knee to create the hook, but the hip must move in concert with the flex or just ever so slightly before so that when the kick finishes the hip angle is now 15 degrees past (to he heel side) of the contact point. Use paddle targets to develop. It is the 30 degree or so motion of the hip that creates the power for a lead leg hook.

Before doing reverse hook you should have a good back kick / reverse side kick.

If doing the reverse or turning to the rear the same idea applies but the turn should be performed as follows;
1. Pivot as par as possible - try for 180 degrees on ball of lead foot
2. Turn upper body as far as possible moving rear foot as little as possible so kicking side hand is between your nose and target.
3. Now kick continuing upper body turn so kicking side shoulder / hip goes past target 15 degrees.[/quote]
