What would everyone consider common knowledge for someone living in a particular area?

By that, I mean that if you live in San Diego you might not know the baseball team for Miama, but you would know about the Padres even if you hated sports.

You would know the area code of where you lived, and the areas surrounding you. You would know what the flag looked like.

Things like that.

What do you think almost everyone from an area would know about it?

Thanks in advance.

What are you going after here? Are you trying to confirm whether someone is from where they claim to be?

Definitely where all the good restaurants are.

Seasoned, I was about to say where the closest McDonald's or Wal-mart is. You must be more upper crust than me. :)

Names of the states/towns sport teams (even if they're not a sports fan)

Famous or popular tourist attractions if they live in such an area.

Names of popular or nearest schools/colleges.

Certian slang that's local to the area.

The county/parish you live in and the nearby ones.

What animals you might see that might be in your area. In my case that could be armadillos, alligators, opposums, snakes, racoons, cranes, herons, 100,000,000 misquitos, etc.

What type of possible extreme weather or possible disasters could happen in your area---be it hurricanes, tornados, flash floods, earthquakes, wild fires, mudslides, drought, snow storms, etc.

Famous people from your area are also common knowledge. We sport Bing Crosby, Marilee Rush(just call her Angel), and serial Killer Robert Yates.

Areas that are to be avoided after dark..

Nothing that you couldn't find on the internet in 12 seconds....

Everyone knows their local area's claim to fame - my hometown, it was the Johnstown Flood and Steel production.

An example of common knowlege happened on American Idol last night. Everyone in the audiance laughed when that Guy sang" Mrs Robinson", and Simon was at a loss for what all the Americans were laughing about. It is common in America to associate the cougar/boy toy thing with the Movie "The Graduate"; while, perhaps not so in Europe.
