Common Errors in “Brush Knee, Twisting Step” 楊式太極拳 摟膝拗步 常見問題

Could you briefly elaborate on what the video is speaking/showing……

He talks about the stepping in tai chi compared to Shaolin
using the Chuan Zi Step (穿字步, Chuān Zì Bù) a stepping method used in traditional Chinese martial arts,

Notice the knee pointing straight

Notice the knee pointing in, he calls this "knee hugging"

He considers this correct stepping..

Used protect your space, and control, break the others posture when moving in,

Thought some might be interested in how he steps and his reasoning for doing so.
Reminds me of" Kung Fu Wang's" comments about controlling the rear or front leg.

The stepping and theory shown by this teacher very different from my own practice.
his method is very linear. and long...

What did you think of the teachers presentation ?
did it align with your practice ?
He mentions 3 point pair...among other things.

thoughts ?
To control both of your opponent's leg is better than just to control one of his legs.

I will add inner hook into brush knee (add leg skill into Taiji move).

- Left hand catch opponent's leading right leg.
- Right leg hook his rooting left leg while push his neck with right hand.

His main "point" comparing stepping in with the knee straight "Shaolin",
and using what he calls "hugging" the knees "taiji"

I don't know why "3 point pair" is any important. If you have

- no intention to use your leg to control your opponent's leg, you can step in any way that you want to.
- intention to use your leg to control your opponent's leg, you can control your opponent's leg from either inside (shin bite), or from outside (body squeeze). Which way is better?

In his video, he uses his leg to control the back of his opponent's leading leg (body squeeze). When he does that, his opponent can spring his leg back. the chance is 50-50.

His opponent is at a good "over hook, leg spring" position.

If he uses "shin bite" or "reverse shin bite", it will be harder for his opponent to counter. Of course, his opponent can "scoop" him. But most of the time, his opponent is not in the right angle to do so.
