Closing the Doors on Superior Tangsoodo

My place is up in the mountains and away from the major attractions. Wait until I post pics of my dojo. It's really sweet...

I'm looking to start a graduate school program in Geology. The best one is in Hawaii. This was where I was accepted. It's going to be a stretch trying to make the money stretch, but I've lived that way before.

Waianae, that's a rough part of Oahu. They have "no haole" signs up over there. How was that 30 years ago?

Just as bad. We were the only haole family there; pops bought the house sight unseen whit a Civil Service transfer to the NAD at lualualei. Got beaten pretty regularly; it's why I started martial arts. Helped a little, but sometimes made it worse....I have a memory of cracking the nose and lips of a local boy in grade school, then spending the rest of the day sneaking from bush to bush, trying to get home while a posse searched for me. :)

Despite that, it was an awesome place to live. Once you get enough of the Island way under your skin to be kama'aina (sp?), things improve. Makes coming back to the mainland harder, though.

Sniff spome plumeria and eat 2-finger poi for me!

Dave.

PS -- Luck on the graduate program. I hear good things about thiers. (ex-wifes friend was in the field)
