So they didn't graze their knuckles when hit by fridges thrown out of blocks of flats on them.......so they could put out their colleagues who were on fire after being hit by Molotov cocktails, so they could block the bricks, and bits of paving thrown at them.....and a thousand other uses.

It's a dangerous place if you wander into parts you are not welcome in, still.
