Avp-r

Oh yes, I'll be on this like white on rice. I even sort of liked the first one, just for Predators and Aliens duking it out! This one looks a lot more fun, starting with the R rating.

I'm with you guys, the first one was "meh" but this one is back to it's roots, R rated roots. What's better than Predators running around in the woods?

I will say that the first one was worth the whole thing just to see the alien queen, outside in good lighting in the snow. That final battle in AVP was damned cool and the best look at an alien queen thus far.

Well this one is definitely more bloody thanks to the previews. Awesome face melting scene in the store... heh.
But again like with all sequels... it'll depend upon the script, director, actors and so forth.
Hopefully it'll be something plausible that we can sit back and say.. yeah... it could happen... if they existed.

Its weird AvP drove me nuts with its constant references to Mayan things as Aztec but I still kinda liked it. I'm actually looking forward to this one. I want to see a grown up Alien-Predator hybrid.

At the end of the film I groaned at the fact that there's a hybrid... it's almost... reaching for story ideas. If the aliens (embryos) were able to take on physical characteristics of their original hosts... then why where they not taking on more human forms? Never mind the atrocious Alien 4 movie. Siggy Weaver supposedly gave BIRTH to that ugly offspring.
So basically the alien/predator hybrid is just a gimmick... cheap unimaginative gimmick. :miffer:

The first AvP movie I liked, despite the fact that it wound me up with it's many divergencies from canon.

Whilst the Aztev/Mayan confusion got under ST's skin, it was the corruption of the story that got on my nerves.

Having read the (initially excellent, latterly not so good) books, it was a huge disappointment to find the action on Earth (wrong), in the present day (wrong), with the Human lead being Negro rather than Japanese (i.e. wrong), the Predator pack no being the equivalent of a juevenile training mission (wrong) and a Pred-Alien being the 'surprise' ending (wrong).

Little Fang not going with the Predators after defeating the Aliens was just the 'wrongness' icing on the cake.

Caver, Ripley did not give birth to the monstrosity that ruined the end of Alien Resurrection but her DNA was in it due to the experiments being performed by Waylan.

The hybrid was an attempt to get a 'trainable' Alien but it failed.

The end of the movie is close to being a link-in to "Earth War" and I was disappointed that they didn't follow that up.

Oh and Ripley died in Alien 3, the Ripley that was in Alien Resurrection was actually an android, not a clone (if the film had followed anythig like the story-line).

Heh shows how much of the movie I shoved out of my mind in trying to forget it.

I think (I hope) I still have the copy of one of the initial AVP graphic novels by Dark Horse Comics. The one where it's an alien planet and they got some sort of cattle drive with these sorta cattle like beasts. The lead was Japanese and a trained fighter now corporate exec. turned fighter. I liked it and hoped that the first movie would be based on that story. Wishful thinking.
The follow up story where she goes with them on their ship and tries to live a Predator lifestyle, seeding planets with aliens for hunting trips and capturing queens for breeding/egg-laying, then finding out that humans are in danger and goes for her home team by "betraying" the ship...and so on...

That would've made a good flick I think. After that series it got too ... mundane for me and I lost taste.

Now the Batman vs Predator/Alien might be good... (yeah, I saw that mini flick) hopefully someone will get the bright idea for that adaptation in hollywood.

No doubt about it. Its a gimmick but I still want to see it.

I had thought in Alien 3 they had established that the Aliens did take on some characteristics of the hosts with the dog aliens.

Actually, the Predalien predates the movie by quite a bit. They were in some of the comics I think, and both modern AvP video games.

The standard Aliens from the first two movies are supposed to be more human like, as they are a bit slower and walk around mostly upright. The "Runner" type from Alien 3 was supposed to be different; smaller, faster and mostly running around on all fours.

I would hate to see the big ugly Alien bastard that would come from a Pilot.

The reason I have hope for this sequel is because it looks like the dynamics of the story are closer to the AVP series from Dark Horse (as opposed to the original AVP movie). Plus I like the hints that the government will get involved and treat the aliens as an epidemic, which smacks of the Aliens series, also from Dark Horse, where the earth is eventually overrun by aliens.

The Batman vs Predator two part comic book series was amazing. I would love to see a good adaptation of that story hit the big screen.
