01-03-2010 12:54 AM:In this battle of striker vs. grappler, the striker won easiy. Paul Daley, in his second fight in the UFC, knocked out Dustin Hazelett at 2:24 in the first round.
"Dustin's a great guy and great fighter, but all fights start standing," Daley said. "Lucky I caught him."
Hazelett (12-5-0) started the bout by trying to roll into Daley (23-8-2) to take him down, but Daley had no problem avoiding the takedown attempt. Daley caught Hazelett with a left hook that sent Hazelett to the canvas. Daley followed up with a few punches to end the fight.
Daley's punches were so strong that after the bout, Hazelett told the fight doctor that he didn't know what year it was. To be fair, the new year is just two days old, so who can blame Hazelett for being confused?
Like many of the fighters on this troubled card, Daley was a late replacement. He did not make weight for this fight, and had to give 10 percent of his purse to his opponent. Hazelett had been preparing to fight judo whiz Karo Parisyan in November. This is Daley's fourth win in a row, second in the UFC.
