Do you know the estimated count? I know Mr. Askinas won't be there. He will be in Hawaii for our state championships.

We will be there. Hope to meet some of you.

That is interesting considering all the complaints and legal issues the USAT is facing. Nothing like taking cover during a bad storm!

Etimated count : 1200
There are over 700 boys/men and 500 girls/women entered in the weight classes. About half of those are entered into 2 divisions...so mabye 8-900?

The decision to come to Hawaii was made months prior all the complaints were filed. So there is no relation to that. One competitor was injured at last year's state championships and his parents grumbled loudly to USAT about what they felt were violations of procedures on how to run a tournament. All of the complaints were determined to be misunderstandings or misperceptions. I think USAT wanted to send someone to monitor this year's tournament because of that. Maybe it is an excuse for a free vacation for Mr. Askinas. I am sure with all the pressure bearing down on him, he could use a vacation. :)

That is a lot. Plus aren't there two qualifying state championships in California as well, one up north and one down south?

For California there are the qualifiers, and then in early April there are the States. I will be going to qualifiers this weekend. I will be helping my master coach his Elite Team, and I will be prepping my Poomsae Team. I'll also be competing for poomsae. I'm unsure how many of our students will be going.

sending Davie to Monitor might not be the smartest idea, but I do agree he needs a vacation. My hope is a very long permanent one

David Askinas as a monitor might not be a good idea, especially after what happened at US Open. But there is a clause somewhere that states a requirement that a USAT representative be present for state championships. It isn't enforced all that often, but in our case it is, because of what happened last year and the complaint generated. state association picks up the tab for the hotel room but USAT covers the airfare. Comes in Thursday night and leaves sunday night or monday.

Back on topic, we now know David won't be there. Not a surprise. Anyone want to guess at how many people Herb threatens to sue, if he shows? I figure he will threaten Brandon Meek within the first 5 minutes, unless Herb has mellowed with children. Brandon is supposed to volunteer. However, he was supposed to be an event specialist at JO's and was bounced because of his candidacy. Any bets on whether or not they have too many volunteers and Brandon won't be needed?

Yes, David Askinas has arrived. Arriving at the same time was a tsunami threat. More than one person commented to me that danger seems to follow David Askinas where ever he goes.

I don't know about the threatening part, but if Brandon Meeks wants to volunteer, he should email or go see Ann Cheon when he gets to the venue. I got an email from her this morning asking for volunteers:

So Herb did not show? You would think that someone running for a board position would be at the State Qualifier mingling and talking about his platform. If nothing else you would think that Herb would have brought some students for support. Who knows maybe he went to Hawaii with his BFF.
