Tower 200 Body by Jake???

I have thought about buying a "Body by Jake Tower 200". I have heard mixed reviews but none from anyone who really has one. Anyone out there have one or know if they are worth the cost.

It looks like an OK piece of Kit. Certainly, if you use it, it'll let you work a lot of muscles.

Personally, I'd invest in a good bopdyweight excercise program book (Convict COnditioning comes to mind, although there are some other good ones out there). Learn the moves...all you really need is a pull-up bar.

If you need to move wieghts, might I also suggest kettlebells? You canget a good one pretty cheap and they don't take up much space.

If you really want to get serious, for the same amount of money you'll spend on th etower, you can get a used olyumpic bar, some plates and a bench off of craig's list. You can build a squat rack out of scaffolding materlais (look it up on google) and do some serious lifting 9a lot more than the 200lbs that the tower is limtied to).

Basically, there are lots of options if you are creative that'll save you money in the long run. Howeverm, the tower seems to be an OK deevice. Better than a lot of the excercise equipment ou thtere (google "shake weight")

For the money, you would be beter buying some kettlebells and a sledgehammer then find some tires. Those items would be better for conditioning your entire body for all martial art and daily activities.

The tower costs $175 for 200 lbs of resistance. Kettlebells don't come anywhere near that in cost effectiveness.

10lb kettlebell=$30
45lb kettlebell=$100 at a cheap retail store that sells them.

Sledge and a tire is a cheap way to go, but only if you have a yard. The tower is very convienant to use in smaller spaces like an apartment etc.

It also offers more ballistic type movements than traditional weight training. It doesn't make it better, just different.

Every tool has a job and function.
 
It doesn't look that solid to me, but I'm all for anything that gets people up and working out. I just always remind them that there's no machine that's gonna make it easy to reach your goals. Rather than waiting for the miracle apparatus just start working out, body weight workouts, yoga, swimming, there's a lot that can be done4 without spending a cent. Heck, I'm sure you can adapt much of what they are saying the machine does for home without the apparatus.

That being said, I cannot speak for the quality of it. But I would love to get my hands on the bands to examine the quality of the rubber and the hand grips.
 
Not to say that the tower 200 isn't effective, it has it's place and can be a great supplement to a varied workout.

However, even if you do decide on going with the tower 200, I recommend bodyweight workouts and kettle bell training - combined you get a great balanced workout.

Look into The Naked Warrior, by Pavel Tsatsouline (my personal favorite, though there are many good books on the subject), if for no other reason then to see if it is for you. Information is never bad.
 
I was looking at one of those myself..Currently using the band system I purchased from CaneMasters and a lot of inventivness..I need to upgrade..

The Kettlestack is a very affordable, very versatile alternative to traditional kettlebells for those looking for a kettlebell experience without the sticker shock.

I've used one for awhile now, and I like it.

I did some research on the Tower 200 and its competitors. I'll post the links I saved from that research. One of the threads is actually from the rosstraining forum. I second the poster above who mentioned the site. rosstraining and rossboxing are excellent resources.

I hope some of this info helps. I haven't made my decision yet. I have a full gym in my garage so I'm not in a rush... but am pretty interested in adding something like this to have more variation
 
Before you consider buying anything, ask yourself what it is you want? Do you want to gain muscle? Tone up? Cardio?

You need to determine your needs before you decide on the direction you need to travel down.

For what I do, this piece of equipment would be a piece of poop.
