Anyone have any experience with any of theTony Robbins training systems? Specifically the Personal Power program. Is it just hype, or is there value to his teachings?

Ooooffff, where to begin. The material Tony Robbins did in the early 90s was phenomenal...or so my then-20something ears thought. Something bad happened to the fellow...I think it was a messy divorce...and he just fell in to oblivion for 10 years. Personal Power was his comeback and...its good but he has a preachy undercurrent that he didn't have in the beginning. I was a bit disappointed but...maybe my expectations were too high.

The guy knows his stuff and he is a coach that has deliberately targeted individuals so you get a lot of practical ideas instead of a lot of business dreck. My suggestion would be to try before you buy if you can. Borrow the tapes from a library, read a book of his if he has any that are recent, and see what you think of his schpiel. If it inspires you and you can relate to it, you may get some good gains out of it.

My personal fave is the late Dr. Maxwell Maltz "Psycho-Cybernetics". Dr Maltz was a sought-after plastic surgeon that writes a lot about how to reframe a problem or a struggle in to something you are actually interested in fighting through. Also...not for everyone, but I enjoy his material a lot

I have found some of his tapes inspirational. I attended a seminar one time and it was good although half of the seminar was him promoting his other seminars!
Maybe try the library to try a book or tape of his and go from there?

ehhhh life coaches..

workshops up to $10,000 with Tony Robbins??

See, after going to that workshop, you're going to need a lifecoach, because you're broke. :)

Actually, I may have an opportunity to work with him one on one through company sponsorship. It won't cost me anything. But I was curious to know more about him, prior to this, from people that have used his training systems.

I too remember hearing about his divorice. I wonder how that has affected his credibility. I also heard that he is or was battling cancer, but can't find any details about that.

Many years ago his tapes did help inspire me to open a school and achieve some other good things in my life. If you can work with him i think it may be a worthwhile experience.

I love his books and actually listen to MPS3 of him when I workout, instead of music.

The way I look at it if it helps you in any way, or even better, if it helps you to help yourself then it cant be all bad.

Not condoning illegal downloading, but I am sure you can find some MP3s out there if you look.

Good Luck.

His tapes are wonderful IF you listen and apply what he says..

I have the original one where he goes on to brag about his marriage only now he is divorced. During the divorce he tried to spend 18Gs on a boob job for his new girlfriend and his soon to be ex-wife filed a injunction against spending any of 'their' money until the divorce was final. So yes in my mind his stock went down some.

You can probably find the set cheap somewhere. In my opinion it would be worth it.

Just be sure to follow up the Tony Robbins workshop with a Dave Ramsey workshop! ;)

Insparational speakers typically draw from two points.

1) Power Expression which is a process of seeming powerful and knowelegable. Made popular by teleavalangilists and Stage Hypnotists.

2) NLP or Nueral Linguistic Programming of which I too and trained (not certified)

The last one is what most life coaches do and it works like this,

1 State the Problem.
2 Analyze the Problem for parallels
3 Establish link to parallel
4 Align perceptions

In a more practicle example:

Person A: I can't seem to stop smoking

NLP Coach: Well why are you looking at it as stopping?

Person A: What do you mean?

NLP Coach: Well if it were me I'd look at it as I was starting something. In the last 5 years haven't you ever started something and decided it was so worth it?

Persona A: Well sure <insert example here>

NLP Coach: This is the same thing! You don't want to quit smoking no one just wants to quite. You want to do more and smoking is holding you back! So say it with me now, "Smoking is holding me back I can acheive.' <insert new goal here>.

and so on.

i've had a lot of good experiences with tony robbins, and i've also seen a lot of junk in his material.

his work on mental outlook, communication and motivation are outstanding. when he starts to get pseudo-scientific, especially in the areas of diet and breathing, he starts to make a lot less sense.

Qi-Gon,

If you are interested (you get first dibs), I have Tony's original Personal Power series on cassette tape, and would gladly donate it to you if you believe that it will be of any help to you...

Should you not be interested... I'd be willing to pass it on to another MT member in need...

In either event, all I ask is for the recipient to pay shipping. If my financial status was better... I'd ship it myself... but, a divorce can really drain the old bank account...

These tapes helped me a lot some years ago... and I recently purchased his PP2 set on CD... and look forward to starting it once things settle down some...

The key, at least as far as I've found, is to keep doing the 30-day program until you acheive all that you want out of it. Doing it once, then hoping everything will work out.... well... just won't...

OK, let me know...

Your Brother in the arts,

Andrew :asian:

Thanks for the offer Andrew but I purchased the PP2 program about a week ago. I've heard alot of positive things about it so I thought I'd check it out for myself.

My pleasure, QG! :asian:

Anyone else interested?

BTW, Tony's "new" wife is H-O-T!

Yep. The first was a bit of a bossy lass, and a tad old for Tony back then. I haven't met the new one; unfortunately, looks ain't everything.

D.

I'd be interested.

EDIT: Oops...Marlon posted first.
