Reported by Douglass Dowty, Sistina Giordano and Marnie Eisenstadt

Syracuse, N.Y. -- When he got on the school bus, girls sitting alone moved to the outside of the seat so there would be no room for him.
When Renz wanted to talk in class, first he had to cover the tracheotomy hole in his neck with his finger so people could hear him, said a friend who graduated from East Syracuse-Minoa High School with Renz.
Renz’s life was dominated by his deformity, his friends and family friends say. But now it is dominated by the unthinkable things police say he did March 14.

And the huge question in cases such as this is; Why do a few people with horrific backgrounds become dangerously pathologic, while the vast majority probably don't?

It could have been because of his face or it could have not been. Pedo's range from "normal" people with no social or physical issues to people just like him.
If you want to bridge the gaps from that articles you could argue his disfigurement could have lead bullying which lead to his life to computers...which led to porn...which lead to finding children images...which lead to what happened.
But who knows? He could have been abused as a child and something again, set him off. It could have had nothing to do with his face or his past hardships. He could have planned it. We really dont know these things...but thankfully its rare.

He must have had a hard life but it looks like he didn't make the adjustment to adulthood healthily. We'll never know the whole story.

I brought this story to light because it reflects so many different variables, the least of which is, it happened close to where I live. When I first read the story it struck me that I have been in this mall many times, and then, what could have been done differently to ensure a better out come to a very tragic ending.
Plus, the fact that he was able to slip his electronic monitoring device which has sparked a federal investigation.

People do learn from the mistakes of others, but there are so many avenues that ran through this killers life, it is hard to pin point any one thing.

In this day and age I would think, with all the news coverage of incidents such as this that play out across the country, just simple awareness would have helped to avert the unthinkable....

It seems some are making excuses for him... :idunno:

Can't a person just be evil? I'm sure we've all done things in our lives we aren't proud of and seek to empathize, but raping a 10 year old and murdering the Librarian? That's not a simple mistake.

He planned it, thought it out... He made a conscious decision to do evil. There's nothing and nobody to blame but him. IMHO

I dibt get why he was out to begin with. Your caught with 3000 kiddie porn movies and a threat of going to jail for a long time there is a higher then normal likelyhood he will act on his obsession before going to prison. He should have been on jail waiting for his trial and this would have never happened.
