According to Martin Peretz, owner of The New Republic magazine, the First Amendment is not a right, but a privilege. And Muslims are not entitled to freedom of religion at all.

But, frankly, Muslim life is cheap, most notably to Muslims. And among those Muslims led by the Imam Rauf there is hardly one who has raised a fuss about the routine and random bloodshed that defines their brotherhood. So, yes, I wonder whether I need honor these people and pretend that they are worthy of the privileges of the First Amendment which I have in my gut the sense that they will abuse.

First, the Bill of Rights are rights, not privileges. Second, one cannot 'abuse' a right. One can exercise that right in ways others do not like, but that is not abuse. One cannot abuse a right if it is indeed a right.

Someone care to explain to me, patiently, as if I were a child, how this spew is NOT blatant religious bigotry? Anyone? Bueller?

Sadly, this is not the first nor will it probably be the last similar statement from Marty Peretz. He has some similar ones about the Palestinians in particular.
