Reading about such a thing led me to a Wiki article about an ancient Greek athlete named Dioxippus.

That's one scary dude, right there. I wonder how he'd do nowadays?

Can't help but think he would do pretty well. Those ancient fighters were renowned for being able to take punishment for long periods.

They were scary men who scared their own towns and cities, the places where they were almost worshipped.

The only problem I would see for men like Dioxippus is being jailed for assault or even murder, but that happens to modern competitors too.
