Just goes to show, you shouldn't get rid of something just because its old technology.
 
Way cool. In a similar vein (oops, sorry, medical pun), I was once on the recommissioning ceremony of the USS New Jersey in Long Beach, CA in 1981. Huge hulking WWII-era battleship, with monster 16-inch guns. When it came time to upgrade the mechanical calculators that figured range and distance, they considered electronics and computers, but realized that mechanical calculators are immune to EMP and thoroughly reliable. They kept them. Cogs and gears are hard to jam electronically.
 
We have a tube system very similar to that one.
