The last popular for the duel in western Europe, was that fought to first blood. The weapon used was very much like a modern (French or Italian grip) epee, but with a sharp point... no edge. This form of duelling survived into the 20th Century and overlapped the time of the silent, pre-WWI newsreels.

Thank you very much for sharing these videos, I really liked them. It's of historical value not only for the duels but also for the footage itself, the oldest Gaumont films I have seen.

I just saw this video which may be of interest although it's recent and it's not a duel, taped knife blade leaving only the edge out:
