I know a bunch of people, Enoch. Who closed his school? I will tell you a few if I know who closed down, so I'll know what your looking for.

:asian:

Thanks Paul,

He was Guru Woodruff in Roseville.

Thanks

Cool...

I know that Chris Malgeri in Madison hieghts has done some stuff w/ Herman Sewanda(sp). Also has Dave Hatch is his instructor, and he is in Canton.

There is a guy in farmington (Williams, I believe), and there is a guy in Port Huron (Jeff Davidson). Jeff seemed nice, Williams didn't, and he was Jeff's instructor. I know that they've brought in Leo Gaje' for Pekiti, but their main thing is Silat. You can check them out if you'd like, although they throw in a lot of "spiritual" stuff in that is junk in my opinion. So...I'd recomend starting your search @ Chris' school. If you want some more detailed opinions, call me, or we can talk when I see you next (my seminar???).

That's about all I got for now! Good luck!

Are you speaking of Mr. Walter Woodruff?
If so, you can go to where Mr Woodruff was (or used to anyway) taking classes in Kali & Silat - The Kali Academy in Madison Heights with Sifu/Guro Chris Malgeri (as Paul ponted out).
13 Mile & Stephenson.
He teaches the Mande Muda system of Pak Herman Suwanda as well as the Maphilindo system of Guro Dan Inosanto.
Check it out - you wont be disappointed...

p.s. Paul, Jeff Davidson's silat instructor is/was Pedekar Sanders in Cali. (dont know who Williams is, there is a Jerry Jacobs in Port Huron & Davidson used to have school in Farmington) - but he no longer has a public school (but should be opening a new one soon I heard) and is no longer affliated with the Cimande Pusaka group. His is the midwest rep for Pekiti Tirsia under Grand Tuhon Leo Gaje (and Chris is the midwest rep for Pekiti Tirsia under Tuhon Bill Mcgrath - who was at one time one of GT Gaje's top students...but not anymore?)

I've worked with Chris at seminars several times over the years and would highly recommend him.

Mike

Thanks everyone...

Chris is no longer at the 13& Stevenson location. As it was said they are in canton I think.

I personally would not recommend going to Jeff School as they do require a lot of suede religious crap that I would not subject myself.

Michigan and Silat are not good friends it seems, I forget the school's name the but it was mentioned above. It's in Farmington I think, a friend of mine who used to teach at Jeffs school tried it out.

They seemed okay he said, all the schools in Michigan vary greatly in the way they execute the silat movements.

Personally I would just get some good tapes from a silat system you like and practice the Jurus, and lankas and drill with friends. Not ideal but better than what is being offered in the area.

PS: I am in the warren area. PM me if you want further discussion :)
