Sat nav/GPS?

Garmin is one of the top names in GPS units. The Nuvi model there is pretty basic, but should do the job.

What I'd suggest you do is go to the stores, and see if you can actually play around with a couple models from different manufacturers. See what interface works best for you. They all lock into the same satellites, using pretty similar technology today. The difference in price comes from things like display size, options to change the voice, battery life, and other stuff that surrounds the basic functions. One note on the "points of interest" files; some stuff is kind of "open source" like fire departments and parks -- but others (gas stations, theaters, stores, etc) are only included if they pay for the listing.

When I sold consumer electronics, Garmin was king, with Tom Tom close behind. In three years I saw two returned, neither were Garmin or Tom Tom.
