These shots are of the Rocky Gorge Falls in the White Mountains, also known as the Upper Falls of the Swift River.
Sadly, a young woman named Dorothy Sparks went swimming in the gorge to escape the summer heat, and perished on July 20, 1942. Since then, swimming in the gorge has been verboten.
I took this picture standing on a wooden footbridge which crosses over the gorge. The footbridge is relatively new. Local hikers say that every so many years, the footbridge gets washed away by raging waters in a spring thaw...the Swift River is aptly named.
