[h=5]Just got asked to provide a review for my recent purchase at Lowe's... including the water heater pan and installation kit. Someone oughta flag their system so that it doesn't ask for reviews of stupid things... Of course, I did have some fun:

This is the epitome of 24" water heater drain pans. Not only functional, but with a gleaming though still utilitarian aluminum charm, it's almost a shame to lock it away in a utility closet, garage, or basement, mostly hidden beneath your water heater. Buy one for your living room, too. With a bit of work and creativity, you can create a very special coffee table or a 2 foot wide serving tray!

The joy begins with the buying experience, where you get to pick YOUR very own water heater pan from the stack, being sure to get one that's just the right size for your heater. You'll surely note the envious stares of other customers as you take it to the front to pay -- and may have to fight the staff to get them to part with it.

Get it home, and the pleasure is compounded, because now you can take the plastic wrapper off, and revel in the water heater pan's stark beauty. With a hole pre-punched on the side, and the pipe fittings provided for you to attach a drain line... You're set. And -- a hidden bonus -- it'll even help you slide your water heater into place by having just the magic amount of slipperiness.

As you install your water heater, there will be the inevitable water spills. (You'll almost want to pour some into the pan for the indescribable surfeit of joy obtained by watching it do it's job -- but don't cheat yourself!) This is where this water heater pan really shows it's stuff. The water collects, and eventually will flow out the drain. The bit that is left can be mopped up with a towel, or you can merely let it evaporate.

All told -- this is indeed a water heater drain pan par excellence.

With 2, and some PVC and pipe fittings -- you can look like old-time strong man with a 1000 lb barbell!
