Here's an interesting pic of protective stick-fighting gear worn by navy personel engaged in Single-Stick practice. probably late 1800's to early 1900's?

This pre-WWI photograph depicts Seaforth Highlanders in tropical and PT outfits complete with Bayonet Fencing Muskets and associated protective clothing, padded jacket, groin guard, gloves and masks, again not too dis-similar to those worn by modern stickfighters.

Here's another example of Victorian stick-fighting protective equipment, made of cane.
Looks very much like the same style of today's Filipino version!
