Well, I have to say that this was a most welcome thing to view:

http://yourfreedom.hmg.gov.uk/

I shall be putting forward my views on the futility of the laws on sword ownership that were passed in recent years. I'm not holding my breath for any change but it's nice to be asked.

On our MOD Intranet we've been asked what savings we think the department can make. So we are certainly telling them. :soapbox:

You may well find the laws on sword ownership will change as frankly they've made no difference at all. My big bet is that the laws on fox hunting will be changed, we're certainly campaigning for them to.

If your finger is indeed on the government pulse with regard to sword legislation, tez, I would be a very happy man indeed :D.

At present I dare not even practise my iai in my own back garden for fear that one of my neighbours will call the police about some 'nutter' waving a sword about. Likewise, I am reticient to order a new iaito, just in case some employee of Her Majesties Customs decides it contravenes the law and has it destroyed.

I've made my submission to the site at any rate. Whether it is ever actually read or does any good is yet to be seen. But as I said above, it is a very laudable thing to be asked.

Actually you can still buy knives and swords legally at our local Sunday market. Very unlikely any sword would be confiscated as the people shipping would be conversant with the Customs peoples rules. Contact the customs people, they have a helpline so you can see where you stand, it's not down to personal choices by officers, there's specific rules.

Are you going to make it legal for the foxes to arm themselves with swords when they're hunted? Or require that they be hunted with swords?

(Sorry, could resist... The image of a fox suddenly turning on a pack of hounds, flourishing a sword was irrestistable!)

Gadzooks, no, a blunderbuss!

foxes are nasty dangerous sly beasties who are becoming a nightmare.
