Mob kills rapist...

I meant local from the context of the women in the article...he was a local thug who terrorized the neighborhood he lived in. One might have headed the article itself "local thug castrated by engraged women" or something along those lines.

Or...I could be writing this from India.

Or, y'know, bloodthirsty vengeance.

Then again, "justice" has never really been about morals and values, has it??

Laughed at and abused by the police when they reported being raped by Yadav, the women took the law into their own hands. A local thug, Yadav and his gang had terrorised the 300 families of Kasturba Nagar for more than a decade, barging into homes demanding money, shouting threats and abuse.

Residents say he murdered at least three neighbours and dumped their bodies on railway tracks. They had reported his crimes to the police dozens of times. Each time he was arrested, he was granted bail.

In India, even to admit to being raped is taboo, yet dozens of Yadav's victims reported the crime. But the 32-year-old was never charged with rape. Instead, the women say, the police would tell him who had made the reports and he would come after them. According to residents, the police were hand-in-glove with Yadav: he fed the local officers bribes and drink, and they protected him.

again, i say justice. morals and ethics? of course.

their judicial system obviously failed them many times over. what else was there to do? wait for it to happen again?

justice.

some people

Actually, in this situation, I agree that the women were in the right. The system failed them...indeed it was corrupt. They were "untouchables." No legal recourse was apparently open to them.

Part of the problem here is corruption, part of the problem the caste system.

I'm in no position to pass judgment here.

India has a real problem in its caste system. But, we still have plenty of racism effects here.

Right here in the good ol' US of A. there are women with scars on their faces, partial paralysis and permanent brain damage who sit in prison serving life sentences for ultimately killing their abusers.

Some of these women have been released, however, many more sit waiting ... serving ... without their children.

This is not India ... but we do not have a perfect system either.

Usha Narayane will be a martyr.

Sounds to me like he got what he deserved.

Only without enough pain and suffering inflicted on him first.

Justice should be so swift. Some days, I'm saddened by the complexity of the judicial system in this country.

i say justice was serverd, and who more fitting to pass it out then his own victems

Had the mob had any other viable recourse, I would condemn their actions as vengeful. However, assuming for the moment that their story is true, reporting the guy to police and taking the official "high road" channels was resulting in nothing more than more rapes.

At any rate, it doesn't sound like the world is really missing much in this guy.

Usually, I hold the rule of law as being the only option for the delivery of justice. I esteem it so because I believe it to be the only way to maintain order in a civilized society. However, under circumstances of corruption and systemic abuse of legal values, I feel that this method of justice was likely the only recourse for the victims. People should not live in fear of criminals under any circumstance.

I certainly hope that those under whom these corrupted law enforcement officials serve accept this event as a clear indication that they have not been diligent enough in their responsibilities regarding oversight of their respective departments, and deliver the appropriate punishments to those deserving of such.
