Here's some footage of a fight between Maung Gyi (founder and chief instructor of the American Bando Association) and Jeff Goldberg.

I'm not sure. One of the competitors is in the ring with long pants -- I've only seen that in kickboxing.

I don't know all the details; I think the rules were straight boxing, but Dr. Maung Gyi is a martial artist and the ABA's annual kickboxing/full contact tournament is one of the longest running amateur events in the US.

It'd be great to hear some details of how this came about, if there's anyone that knows 'em. Meanwhile, I'll try to get some back story.

Looking at the footwear I am guessing it was straight boxing. Though you never know.

Its a boxing match from 1964 with a boxer who outweighted Dr. gyi. The late Peter Urban is the ref. Dr. Gyi gave this to me a long while ago and i had notes on it but I'm away from home.
