I am listening to a show on the radio about Martin Luther King Jr. They are playing some news reports of the day after the assassination and also some of his last speeches and talks.

In retrospect, looking back on it now, it is very clear that he knew very good and well that he was going to be killed. But, yet, he went ahead anyway. He chose to keep on talking and so forth, he did not try to run away and hide.

I am convinced that he went ahead and gave speeches and participated in the strike of the garbage men with full knowledge that it was going to cost him his life. Its very clear when you listen to the speeches.

This is how much he cared for this change, to even do it when he knew he was going to get whacked!

Yes sometime you have to do what you believe in without regards to your own safety.

The History Channel has a program that is examining the King assasination.
According to them (or the folks they interviewed) J.E. Ray was the lone gunman and he was with his brothers who were members of the KKK and the fact that King was lobbying for better situations/circumstances with the Garbage union prompted Ray to take action.

They brought up the J. Edgar Hoover involvement and called it a good screen-play and a great work of fiction but ludicrous to suggest that he had anything to do with the killing of the man. Hoover was more interested in publically humiliating King than killing him, using the old sex scandal standby.

One wonders what King could've accomplished if Ray hadn't pulled the trigger... or at least missed.
