Well, after a little over a month I am officially hurt. I don't know what is wrong as my doctor's appointment isn't until 2pm today. All I know is the back of my right knee hurts when I have it bent for a while and then straighten it out. Also, my left buttocks hurts when I bend my left leg in.

The reason it is a little discouraging is we have promotion in about a month and our school is going to Cancuun for a tournament in march. I had been making good progress but I know I am going to be out of training for a while, I just don't know how long.

Has anyone ever heard of a buttock hurting? Talk about a pain in the butt!!!

Might be a slight tear in the medial min-is-cus and over extension of the flexors tendions

Yep, mine does after I injuried by back..Get thee to an Orthopedic Specialists, or see your MD for a referal...An MRI will reveal all that is wrong..If you are a little claustrophobic seek out an OPEN MRI

Will do! Hopefully, I can find something out today! Thanks!!!

You are most welcome and STOP training until you get your findings..You don't want to chance some real serious damage...

I promise, no training until I find out. I realized that I am getting old when it hurts to sit down. I even grunted the other day when I went to stand up. I just hope I am not out too long. I have never really been hurt before and have played sports all my life, so I don't know the healing process.

You may not need an open MRI for a leg scan. My son had am MRI on his knee and they just stuck his leg in the machine and left the rest of him laying outside. When I had my MRI they needed to check the torso so I ended up with my head hanging out the other side.

I see you are in the USA, get the cost estimate first!!! MRI's are very expensive ($3000 or more) and you want to make sure your insurance will cover it. You will still end up paying about 10% to 20% of that figure plus deductable, out of pocket etc... so start saving now.

True..You will ony need to worry about open or closed if they decide to check your back..

Yeah it aint cheap...Thankfully all my injuries have been on the job...

I agree with Drac's encouragement to stop training & seek out a specialist.

You're in my prayers for your recovery.

My insurance is pretty good, actually. My wife's MRI only cost us baout 40 dollars. Unfortunately it is like a 2 week wait.

That IS good news..Keep us posted....

Better stop training until you know what it is.

Years ago (1993) I had a tugging pain in the buttocks when I stood up from a chair that radiated down my leg. It made my foot a bit numb, too. This was caused by heavy lifting.

That was caused by sciatica or a herniated disc. If you are suffering form sciatica that disc could slip, cut the nerve and you could become a paraplegic.

Back in those days we were given a steriod shot in the back muscles and a series of cortisone shots in the spine.

There are better methods now and an MRI is a good way to find out. In Canada it's all covered with our medicare so it didn't affect me much fiancially, just some days off for the shots.

I will. Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom and encouragement. I hope to find something out soon. Although I am hurt in my lower part of my body I am hoping to lift or other activities that won't bother my lower body.

Don't worry, I will go over everything with the doctor first.

I have question. There have been a couple times where my toes on my left foot would go a little numb. it was the left side of my left foot. I really hope it isn't too serious.

I kindda feel ya pain. My 13 yr old daughter dislocated her left knee cap back in April and went through 8 weeks of PT and was OK for a while, then it happened again late Oct. She is scheduled for surgery later this month. She is devastated cause she was getting ready to test for Blue belt rank. Anyway, I have you in prayers and take it easy on yourself until the Doc says it's OK to train. By the way with insurance, her MRI costs 400.00 so it varies across the board. Good Luck and stay strong.

OMG! Tell your daughter that she is in my prayers. I was at a tournament in late october where a young girl dislocated her knee cap. I felt so bad for her. She was doing really well in a sparring match when she got hurt.

I felt so bad.

Thank you for your kind words and prayers. I will not do anything without my Doctor's permission.

I know you are bummed. I always fear that something will happen and I'll have to discontinue training for awhile. Which brings me to: do you have flat feet? Do you have bunions or hammertoes? If you do have foot problems, that could explain anything going on above. Sometimes my toes tingle or go a bit numb. My hammertoes have a tendency to "jumble up" by crowding into one another.

If you don't have any foot problems, it could just be whatever is going on with the knee and buttock may be pressing on a nerve, maybe even the sciatic nerve.

Sorry you have to wait two weeks! Argh!

Hopefully this will give you a laugh and make ya feel a little better..I have been in the MA since the mid 70's..I've been tossed and thrown on the wooded dojo floors many times over last 25 plus years, matted floors were unheard of..I been " down" while riding my Harley a few times and involved in more physical confrontations than I care to remember...

So here I sit at home with bulging discs and one of them pressing against a nerve..HOW did I sustain such a painful injury??? Getting out of my ****ing cruiser!!!!

Could be worse...

I know a guy who's on modified duty with some wild sewing on his fingers because one got slammed in a bathroom door...

Thanks Bro..I don't feel so bad....

I was in hospital for a few days when I was a kid because I was run over by a chariot at scout camp. The Doctor told me that the number of chariot injuries in the UK had declined since the Romans left and that I was the first one he had ever seen.
