Every once in a while I learn something that kind of surprises me. Nothing major, just something interesting :)

For instance, I learned today that the little plastic thing on the end of your shoe lace is called an Aglet! I never knew! My wife told me to not let our son eat his Aglet, and I was like "what?!?".

Anyone have anything similar lately? Whats been a pleasant learning experience recently?

I love random tidbits of info. Here's mine:

Polar Bears have clear hair, black skin, and don't show up on infrared.

I make it a given that I learn something I didn't know each day - for example ... polar bears don't show up on IR?! :eek:. That's pretty good heat insulation.

One of the first things I learned in my first Physics class in college, from the professor, was what an interrobang was.

And it has ABSOLUTLY nothing to do with Physics and I have never EVER used it.

Wikipedia is one of the few web pages I frequent. I love the "Did you know..." and "On this day..." sections. I almost always find useful tidbits of information on there. Most of it is stuff I truly could care less about, but once in a while I find something really cool :)

This should be a very cool thread if contributed like it should be.

Today I learned that people can be pretty dang stupid no matter how smart they are. :uhyeah:

Today I discovered I don't know everything. Boy was that a shocker. :uhyeah:

You know the little dishes that Creme Brulee's come in? Just learned those are called "Ramekin" :)

I want one!! I wonder if there's a LaTeX character set that has it...

... probably not!

How can anything emit that low a level of IR??? I mean, even interstellar dust has an IR footprint!

I learned that I'm related to Attila the Hun. That would explain a lot of things now... lol

:bangahead::eek::uhyeah:

That is now my favorite punctuation mark. To think, just days ago, I didn't have a favorite punctuation mark.
