Well done Miss Robson - yet again you made me smile and applaud with your playing and yet again you knocked off someone much higher than you in the rankings. Way to go young 'giant killer' :D. Lifted my spirits after seeing another valiant favourite, Heather Watson, defeated in her first round match.

  • Robson beats 10th seed Kirilenko
  • Robson wins 6-3 6-4 on Court One

Some quotes to show it's not just me waxing poetic for Laura

Virginia Wade, BBC Sport"What a first-class performance. She hit the ball so cleanly with so many winners, Kirilenko didn't really have a look-in. It was really stunning, I don't know if she can keep up that sort of quality because it was out of this world."

"It's a big scalp. Sometimes you get people who are ranked 10 in the world who are not good on a particular surface, but Kirilenko reached the quarter-finals here last year. This is a good win for Laura Robson."

Tracy Austin, BBC Sport"With Laura, you see progress. You look for the weapons in youngsters, something you can end points with and build a game around. She has those, and she has the confidence to win the big games at the Grand Slams."

I'm sorry, I don't know who she is. Do you have a link? :)

And Laura does it again, with a commanding scoreline under the closed roof of Centre Court with all eyes on her. Handling that sort of pressure is what any British tennis player with any degree of talent has to endure; it is too much for many. Being expected to deliver not only against your opponent but also up to the expectations of the crowd is a crushing burden for a British psyche. But Laura did it today. There were a few nervous signs it is true but the lass has power to burn.

Andy Murray too showed that, just maybe, for a little while, those emotion-shredding matches with our British flag waving bravely as it goes down in defeat are a thing of the past. Maybe we can look forward to a few matches where 'our man' is expected to do well because his track record proves it and we can cheer him on without internally freaking out that he's not going to make it :D.
