I thought that this would make a good thread on it's own.
So HOW do you use your positional checks as placeholders and turn them into an "active hand" instead of just holding them there just in case the attacker throws a strike there. In reality, if one looks at the positional checks, many of them seem to be doing nothing because of what we have already done to the opponent. For example, yellow belt technique "Delayed Sword" we just kicked them in the groin and bent them over, and then struck a knifehand to their throat/neck. The left hand is held there as a positional check for what?
