Howdy Y'all,
My first post here...

Anyone have more (concrete) information on this new KKW initiative? Seems to have been implemented in a haphazard way, little notice or circulation.

Personally I'm at a loss to understand any benefit over the current structure.

Or.... like the new website, is Kukkiwon currently in "train wreck mode"

I have sent a letter, no response yet.

Regards

Thanks, have read the other post. Some comfort I suppose in knowing others also in the dark.:drinky:
Cheers

ANd with this the shift of power begins to swing back into the hands of the Korea/Americans.....

Only if we are stupid enough to keep sending money for something that lost its value a long time ago.

17 Nations 34 Associations, Kukkiwon Overseas Branch Program Meeting

James Kim, Dae Gil Jung (2010/02/10) ? reco:0

Representatives from each nations favoring overseas branch idea

Chairman Seung Wan Lee speaking at the meeting

Kukkiwon (Head Chairman Seung Wan Lee) hosted 'Kukkiwon Overseas
Branch Program' meeting on the 9th at Samsung Hotel, Korea. There were
17 nations and 37 associations in attendance for this meeting.

"This meeting's purpose is to unify Taekwondo practitioners from
different nations and to improve martial arts side of Taekwondo"
Chairman Lee said. He added "goals in developing overseas branch are
to create a network in order for us to offer martial arts educational
programs, seminars, and Hanmadang sanctions to other nations."

During the meeting, there were many interesting opinions from
different attendees. Sang Chul Lee (President USTC) who proposed to
have a branch in the United States to Kukkiwon said, "World Taekwondo
Federation (WTF) is an organization that is concentrated in sparring
aspect of Taekwondo. Cuba for example, they learn how to kick before
they learn Poomsae. These athletes do not even know what Kukkiwon is
most of the time. That is why developing Kukkiwon overseas branch is
necessary." Representative from India said "India takes great pride in
Taekwondo. There are many masters in India as well. However, only 3%
of those masters are Kukkiwon certified. This is a big problem. To
certify these masters under Kukkiwon Dan system, overseas branch is a
must." Morocco's Chang Young Yoon master also said "I started the
Taekwondo education program in Morocco for the first time. Because we
lack the numbers of masters in Morocco, I had to do the programs by
myself. There are approximately 20,000 Taekwondo practitioners now in
Morocco. Kukkiwon cannot deny them the education they need. And for
that, overseas branch is very important."

Overall, everybody favored the idea of developing Kukkiwon overseas
branch. Some feel this is crucial for the martial arts aspect of
Taekwondo to once again be embedded into our Taekwondo athletes rather
than be dominated by sparring aspect of Taekwondo.

Yea I will wait and see who is going to lead before I just follow into some mess of a American branch.

Only 2 groups applied to represent the US.... and USAT/MAC wasnt one of them.

More to come......

This is the USTC's push to get the KKW branch under their control. They are the ones sponsoring all of the Instructor courses. The license they issued from the last course said that they were the "sole NGB for TKD in the US". Sang Lee wants contols back in his hands. After that they wil probably try and rework the seriously failing grassroots program in the US. Who knows.....they might even try to make a push for......dare I say......to take power from the REAL NGB : the USAT!
Wouildn't be too hard really.

Why would the IOC give the NGB back to Sang Lee, it was under his regiem when the USTU went under? Not say the USAT is doing any better, but we really have no clue what is going to happen except something will fall over the next couple of years.

You know, for years there has been another smaller Org here in the U.S. that had been hosting KKW officials and seminars and Tests here in the states. Way before the USAT did their "Special Test"/ "historical Kukkiwon Test"/ First time ever held outside Korea".... blah blah blah.... Long Before the USTC ever came to be.... back even when Sang Lee was running USTU and didnt host any events/tests/seminars... for KKW.

Anyway, this smaller Org has hosted numurous Kukkiwon Sanctioned events and testing here in the US. The only difference is they dont advertise it to the world...

This may be their advantage.... when Sang Lee had the power(NGB-USTU), he didnt utilize it for the betterment of KKW. And he has also been marked by the whole downfall of the USTU... Right now, KKW is having its own power struggles, the last thing they want is more which can lead to the end of KKW.

Anyone logged onto the KKW website lately? They are admitting the Korean Governments attempts to control them. By opening these overseas branches, it "Globalizes" the KKW and they can try to prevent the Government from taking over.

This is all just my opinion by the way..... and like _______, we all have one!
