Killing a Hurricane: Reality or Sci-Fi?

I heard something about this on the radio yesterday. It didn't work. The report that I heard was that the heat energy alone from a large hurricane was like setting of a 10 megaton nuke every 20 minutes. I really have to think that the human race has begun to think way too highly of itself if we believe we can over power one of the most destructive forces mother nature has to toss at us. Just the sheer size of a hurricane would make the task beyond herculean. Rita covered the entire gulf at one point.
