OTSU, Shiga Pref. (Kyodo) Ethiopian Yemane Tsegay pulled away shortly after the midway point en route to winning the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon on Sunday.
Tsegay, who came fourth at last year's world championships in Berlin, made his move right before the 24-km mark and held off Tomoyuki Sato to cross the line at Ojiyama stadium in 2 hours, 9 minutes, 34 seconds.
