IOC Trademarks Part of Canadian National Anthem
2008-09-30 20:45

gravis777 sends us to BoingBoing for news that the International Olympic Committee has trademarked a line from the Canadian National Anthem and is threatening to sue anyone who uses it. The line in question is "with glowing hearts." "The committee is so serious about protecting the Olympic brand it managed to get a landmark piece of legislation passed in the House of Commons last year that made using certain phrases related to the Games a violation of law. The list includes the number 2010 and the word 'winter,' phrases that normally couldn't be trademarked because they are so general."

**** those ****-for-brains *******s and the horse they rode in on. If those ****wits want to try to defend that in court, let'em try.

This is just the kind of thing that illustrates what a bunch of flaming, gaping *******s the ****head IOC is, and why any organization that gets involved with them is going to be contaminated beyond cure...

PS: the above comments extend to any legislative body that allows its citizens' basic rights of expression to be curtailed by self-important, self-satisfied greedheads posing as international sport diplomats.

Very thought out speeach and one of the best ever.

[shakes head] This goes to show what i've always said, never underestimate the sheer stupidity of fools acting in concert.

I wonder if the Arthur C. Clarke estate should get to contest the trademarking of "2010"?

Sheesh.

peace....WITH A GLOWING HEART

I already trademarked "with" so we're going to court.

I'm reminded of the joke that Bill Gates has patented 0 and 1 so anyone wanting to use them has to negotiate with him.
